Fashion at the Races: Fall Stars at Keeneland

The beginning of October means a few amazing things in horse racing: One, it’s officially fall fashion season, two, Keeneland’s fall race meet is on, and three, we are only a month out to the Breeders’ Cup Championships! Woop Woop!

Fall Stars weekend is the first weekend at the Keeneland which brings in some of the big name equine stars from all over the country. A little bit of a chill in the air allows us ladies and gents to grab our warmer fabrics and colors. Keeneland is known for its own sort of fashion. Nothing like you’d see at Belmont or Santa Anita — this is place for boots and scarves and lots of plaid!

We would love to see a combination of Keeneland Fashion and overall racing fashion. With leather boots, and a wrap scarf, it’s too easy to look dressed down. So be sure to include elegant and feminine details to keep you race day ready.

Keeneland is a heel happy track, which means it’s easy to walk around in with heels, and if you are in the clubhouse area, the rug covered indoors will be very merciful to your feet. Since the weather has turned be sure to leave the sandals at home. Pumps or booties are a great pick.

Fun fall fashion components include faux fur accents, a great pair of gloves, obviously a fabulous fascinator or hat, and a statement jacket. A smaller fascinator or felt brimmed piece would be the best millinery choice at Keeneland.

Depending on the weather, you will want to be prepared for whatever the temperature of the day. Strapless dresses will most likely stay hanging in your closet — choose a cap, three-quarter, or long sleeve to keep yourself warm and in season.
