The Road to the Breeders’ Cup continues this Saturday, Aug. 5, with the Grade 1, $1.2 million Whitney Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. The 1 1/8-mile test is a Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series “Win and You’re In” qualifying race for the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 4 at Del Mar, and is expected to feature top divisional contenders Gun Runner and Keen Ice.
The Whitney will be featured in NBC Sports’ live broadcast on-site from Saratoga as part of its “Win and You’re In” series of telecasts presented by Lane’s End and America’s Best Racing. The broadcast will air on NBC from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
Saratoga coverage prior to NBC’s broadcast on Aug. 5 will be available on "Saratoga Live," NYRA's flagship show presented by Claiborne Farm. “Saratoga Live” is available in 75 million households nationally through Fox Sports 2 and regionally through MSG+, Fox Sports Prime Ticket, Fox Sports San Diego, Fox Sports Ohio and the Altitude Sports Network. “Saratoga Live” runs from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET on Whitney Day, and from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET on Aug. 2-4.
A highlight of the week’s radio and online streaming coverage is the upcoming “The Winner’s Circle” podcast, presented by America’s Best Racing in conjunction with SB Nation Radio. Hosted by Bram Weinstein, the Aug. 5 podcast features scheduled guest Justin Nicholson, an owner/breeder and one of the creators of Equistricon, a first-ever convention for horse racing professionals and fans held at Saratoga from Aug. 13-15. The program airs at 10 a.m. ET on the SB Nation Radio network of stations, at www.sbnationlive.com, and on the SB Nation Radio app.
